The Spandettes

The Spandettes' debut album Spandex Effect was released world-wide in 2013 . The first single off the album, “Sweet & Saccharine,” generated a buzz in the global dance music community garnering radio play from the legendary Gilles Peterson of BBC Radio 6, KCRW in L.A., and spent 8 weeks on J-Wave Radio Tokyo’s influential Tokio Top 100 chart.

Their sophomore album Sequin Sunrise was released on P-Vine Inc. Japan in the summer of 2015 with great success including charting in the top 40 in Tokyo and Sapporo. The album was released world-wide in March, 2016.

The band’s front-women, Alex TaitMaggie Hopkins and Lizzy Clarke lead this dynamic 10-piece outfit through musical terrain that balances sugary sweet vocal stylings, air-tight horn passages and hard hitting grooves from their stellar rhythm section.

In a musical landscape where trends come and go like the wind, the timeless sound of The Spandettes truly stands out among the rest.

As the album title suggests, [Sequin Sunrise] represents a new chapter for The Spandettes. The band has achieved dramatic musical growth on this album.
— Yoshiaki Takahashi, Japanese liner notes
The long awaited new album Sequin Sunrise, showcases The Spandettes’ individual personalities and the music shines dazzlingly with so much elegance.
— Yuma Totsuka, Mikiki Magazine, Japan
The Spandettes] second album is cheerful and includes lovely original songs with acid jazz influences and good summer vibes. We love their cover of Lemuria’s bitter-sweet song, ‘All I’ve Got To Give’.
— Bounce Mag, Japan
Spandex Effect is energetic, playful, danceable and topped with three part harmonies... It’s a great soundtrack to summer.
— Errol Nazareth - CBC Toronto
Their debut album is appropriately called The Spandex Effect. These ladies wear their “disco” hearts on their sleeves.
— The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show - BBC
Nice harmonies, interesting steel drums on Dig Deeper. Touch of the Winehouse about the lead vocals. A blazing summer anthem from this debut release. Warm and welcoming.
